Château Dereszla Dorombor Száraz 2022
"Bright. Fresh. Distinctively Tokaj"
HK$115.00
The Story
Dorombor is Château Dereszla’s playful, approachable line that turns Tokaj’s serious image into something friendly and everyday. The name is a Hungarian pun: dorombol means “to purr” (like a cat), and bor means “wine”, hence the cat illustrations on the labels. The range includes a dry (“Száraz”), an off‑dry (“Nem Száraz”), and a sweet expression, all built around the region’s signature Furmint grape, sometimes blended with Muscat and Hárslevelű for extra aroma and roundness
The story behind Dorombor Száraz 2022 is about making Tokaj accessible: a crisp, aromatic dry white that showcases Furmint’s natural acidity, citrus and stone‑fruit character, and subtle mineral edge, without the complexity or price of top Aszú wines. It’s designed for casual drinking, conversation, and food pairing, embodying the “purring wine” idea—something smooth, comforting, and easy to enjoy.
Winery History
Château Dereszla’s history stretches back to the early 15th century; the first written record dates to 1406, when the property served as a royal wine storehouse for the Hungarian king’s court. Over the following centuries, ownership shifted with Hungary’s turbulent history—Hungarian, Turkish, Austrian, and Transylvanian rulers—before passing to local merchant families and, later, a cooperative under communism.
After privatization in the 1990s, the French d’Aulan family acquired Dereszla in 2000, investing heavily in modern equipment and restoring its historic one‑kilometre underground cellars. In 2016 the estate returned to Hungarian ownership, while maintaining its international reputation. The Dorombor line emerged in this modern era as a lighter, more playful expression of Tokaj, using the same classified vineyards and centuries‑old terroir, but aimed at everyday enjoyment rather than ceremonial sweet wines.
