Gere Villányi Syrah Konololy 2021
"Where the Rhône meets the Hungarian sun"
HK$375.00
The Story
The Konkoloy vineyard is one of Villány's most prized single sites — a south-facing slope of limestone and loess soils that produces Syrah of extraordinary intensity. Attila Gere was among the first in Hungary to recognise Syrah's potential in Villány's warm, continental climate. The result is a wine that channels the power and spice of the Northern Rhône while expressing the unique mineral character of Hungarian terroir.
Winery History
Attila Gere began as a forester before founding his winery in 1991. Named Winemaker of the Year in 1994, he farms 70+ organically certified hectares in Villány's finest sites. His 2000 Kopar famously outperformed Château Pétrus in a blind tasting — a landmark moment for Hungarian fine wine.
Appearance: Deep, almost opaque purple-black with blue highlights.
Nose: Intense and complex — black pepper, dark fruit (blackberry, black olive), smoked meat, and violet, with notes of leather and Mediterranean herbs.
Palate: Full-bodied and powerful with concentrated dark fruit, firm tannins, and a distinctive peppery spice. Oak integration is seamless.
Finish: Long, warming, and complex — a finish of dark fruit, pepper, and smoky minerality.
