Gere Villányi Kopar Cuvée 2020
"The wine that beat Château Pétrus"
HK$585.00
The Story
Kopar is Hungary's most celebrated wine — a Bordeaux-style blend that has conquered the world's most prestigious blind tastings. In 2005, the 2000 Kopar was served blind at a dinner attended by Wine Spectator's legendary editor James Suckling. It outperformed a 1989 Château Pétrus rated 100 points, prompting Suckling to write: 'When a Hungarian red beats Pétrus in a blind tasting, you know the world of wine is a gunslinger's paradise.' Named after the Kopár vineyard — the highest-rated site in Villány — Kopar has been the benchmark of Hungarian fine wine since its first vintage in 1997.

Appearance: Deep, inky garnet with purple highlights, exceptional depth.
Nose: Profound and complex — black cherry, cedar, fine cocoa powder, dried Mediterranean herbs, and a taut mineral thread from limestone soils.
Palate: Full-bodied, structured, and polished. Concentrated dark fruit — blackberry, black plum, cassis — with perfectly integrated Hungarian oak, firm but refined tannins, and exceptional mineral complexity.
Finish: Extraordinarily long and age-worthy — a finish of dark fruit, cedar, and mineral that evolves for minutes in the glass.
