Gere Villányi Athus Cuvée 2013
"The everyday expression of Villány's finest estate"
HK$115.00
The Story
Athus is Gere's most approachable wine — an 'everyday' cuvée crafted with the same meticulous attention to detail as the flagship Kopar, but designed for immediate enjoyment. Named after the ancient Roman settlement near Villány, Athus captures the warmth and generosity of the region's character: fresh cherry and sour cherry notes, soft tannins, and the kind of easy drinkability that makes it the perfect companion for any occasion. The 2013 vintage has had over a decade of graceful development.
Winery History
Attila Gere began as a forester, but a taste of wine from his father-in-law's cellar in 1978 revealed Villány's dormant potential for world-class reds. He founded his winery in 1991 and was named Winemaker of the Year in 1994. His 2000 Kopar famously outperformed Château Pétrus in a blind tasting, announcing Hungary's arrival on the world fine wine stage. Today, Gere farms over 70 organically certified hectares.
Appearance: Bright ruby red with violet highlights.
Nose: Fresh and appealing — cherry, sour cherry, red plum, and a hint of violet, with subtle spice notes.
Palate: Medium-bodied, fresh, and fruit-forward. Typical Villány cherry and sour cherry character with soft tannins and lively acidity.
Finish: Clean, fruity, and satisfying — a finish that invites another glass.
