The wine that conquered the courts of Europe
Tokaji Asz has been called the 'Wine of Kings and King of Wines' since the 17th century, when it graced the tables of Louis XIV of France, Peter the Great of Russia, and Frederick the Great of Prussia. The 5 Puttonyos designation indicates five 'baskets' (each ~25kg) of hand-selected botrytised Asz berries added to 136 litres of base wine - creating a wine of extraordinary sweetness, complexity, and acidity. Chteau Dereszla's 2019 vintage, from a year of perfectly timed autumn rains and cool nights, represents the pinnacle of this ancient tradition.
Chteau Dereszla is one of Tokaj's most prestigious estates, located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region. The chteau's cellars, carved deep into volcanic tuff, maintain perfect conditions for the slow aging of Asz wines.
{'appearance': 'Vivid golden yellow with amber highlights - liquid sunshine in the glass', 'nose': 'Profound and complex - white flowers, honey, roasted almonds, pineapple cake, apricot, and a distinctive oxidative quality from years of barrel aging', 'palate': 'Richly sweet yet perfectly balanced by vibrant, blade-like acidity. Concentrated flavours of caramelised apricot, honey, mango, lemon sherbet, and a distinctive wood character from the cellar. The Tokaji magic: sweetness and acidity in perfect tension', 'finish': 'Extraordinarily long - a finish that evolves and changes for minutes, driven by a wave of acidity that carries nuances of caramelised apricot and honey'}
