The Story
Villány shares the same latitude as Bordeaux, and nowhere is this kinship more evident than in Bock's Special Reserve Merlot. Sourced from the estate's finest Merlot plots — including the legendary Ördögárok vineyard — this 100% Merlot is aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels. The result is a wine of Pomerol-like richness and complexity, at a price that makes it one of the world's great wine values. The 2015 vintage is considered one of the finest in Villány's recent history.
Winery History
The Bock family has been growing vines in Villány since 1850. Villány shares the same latitude as Bordeaux, earning it the nickname 'the Hungarian Bordeaux'. The region's warm, continental climate and limestone-rich soils produce Merlot of exceptional ripeness and concentration.
Appearance: Deep ruby-garnet, almost opaque, with a narrow brick rim.
Nose: Luxurious and complex — ripe plum, black cherry, mocha, dark chocolate, and vanilla, with hints of tobacco and dried herbs.
Palate: Full-bodied and velvety, with rich, concentrated fruit, perfectly integrated oak, and silky tannins that coat the palate.
Finish: Long, warm, and deeply satisfying — a finish of dark fruit, chocolate, and spice that persists for over a minute.
